The Speaker of the Ethiopian Parliament, the Honorable Abadula Gemeda, made clear to the Oromia Broadcasting Network the reasons why he decided to resign from the Speakership and the Federal government. He said despite his seemingly “High Position” in the Federal government, the administration is openly violating the dignity and the national interests of the Oromo people with impunity and with no interest to correct any of their major attacks on the honor, dignity and national interests of the Oromo people.
He further stated that the Administration is also violating the dignity and interests of his organization, the OPDO, even as it continues to violet the dignity and the national interests of the Oromo people. He said he will join the struggle of the Oromo people to restore the dignity of the Oromo and protect their national interests and establish genuine federalism in the country with justice for all.
This certainly will take the unfolding political crises to a level not seen in the recent history of the country. The reasons he provided is very critical and resonated well with the Oromo people. It will cement the resistance of the Oromo people against the regime and are likely to lead the Oromo protests into the final stage to restore the dignity, honor, and respect of the Oromo people as a people in Ethiopia and protect their national interests by establishing a genuine federalism as the Honorable Speaker said.
