Kaliti Post is a symbolic name representing one of the several federal prisons of Ethiopia. Commonly referred to as a gulag to remember many Ethiopian journalists, politicians and human right defenders who are/were locked in the Kaliti Prison.
Kaliti Post is an independent, nonpartisan and nonprofit online news outlet whose mission is to produce original and citizen-driven reporting on Ethiopia, the largest and most populous state in Africa next to Nigeria. Kaliti Post seeks to offer thought-provoking, contextual, and nuanced coverage of critical public interest issues thereby bringing much needed attention to under-reported stories in the country. Our goal is to create a strong and sustainable multilingual newsroom that will serve as a reliable source of information about the Ethiopian state and the Horn of Africa region.
We hold ourselves to the highest journalistic standards but unabashedly and proudly offer a uniquely Ethiopian perspective. We also aim to connect the growing Ethiopian diaspora to its homeland using innovative digital tools and people-centered storytelling techniques. We also work hard to bring our high quality, high-impact multimedia content to be available in easily accessible formats including on the web, mobile devices, social media, (satellite television and radio station, in near future.)
